Pick four sequence at Woodbine an appealing play

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – On a ho-hum Friday card at Woodbine with predominantly low-level claimers, the pick four is arguably the most appealing sequence among the eight races.

The erratic Adelaide Court is a must-use in the fourth for $10,000 nonwinners of two going six furlongs. Trained by Renaldo Holder, Adelaide Court was in mediocre form before a front-running third in his penultimate start, for $15,000 stock. The 5-year-old had no shot after going six wide on the turn over a strong rail-favoring track moving up to $25,000 most recently. The sharp drop in class Friday could be just what the doctor ordered, with Sahin Civaci inheriting the mount from the injured Desean Bynoe.

Other possibilities in the fourth are the 1 for-33 Benlion, who’s coming off his best race of the meet, a charging second, and 3-year-old Silent Fortune, who’s been in a tailspin since placing in the Frost King Stakes. Silent Fortune did run against the bias in the same race in which Adelaide Court is exiting. The speedy Very Debonaire, who benefited from an inside bias when second in his last race, could shake loose up front.

The fifth, a six-furlong sprint for $5,000 claimers, can probably be pared down to Jamiesta, Napa Spirit, and Forester’s Turn.

Jamiesta should be favored off a wide fourth in a tough $7,500 claimer where Malibu Secret and Kid Forester ran one-two. Kid Forester subsequently upset Malibu Secret while romping at the same level with a 94 Beyer Speed Figure. Jamiesta is being reunited with second-leading rider Civaci, who has won 33 races at the meet for Jamiesta’s trainer, Marty Drexler.

Napa Spirit raced just off a golden rail on the turn while dueling for the lead en route to a third-place finish in a Nov. 12 starter. Forester’s Turn had a wide trip on the same day when he rallied from midpack to finish a close second as the dropping favorite in a $5,000 dash.

Spanish Prince is the one to beat in the sixth, a 6 1/2-furlong event for $10,000 nonwinners of three. The son of Cairo Prince was in drab form before a nose loss on the drop to $7,500 in a key race Oct. 27, from which victorious Stylish Gent exited to crush $5,000 opposition. Leo Salles will ride him again for trainer Norm McKnight.

Secondary contenders in the sixth include Might Bee Speedy, who was competitive in his last two starts for $15,000, and Boxer Brief, who placed in back-to-back races before a coming up empty most recently in another $15,000 claimer. Reload Bullet and Sea to Air should ensure a lively pace, which could be fueled by Spanish Prince.

Trizzel Trazzel can be singled on economy tickets in the seventh for $10,000 nonwinners of three going 6 1/2 furlongs. He came wide from sixth to finish third over an inside-favoring track in a $15,000 sprint two weeks ago under Pietro Moran. The 10-pound apprentice won on him in October and will break from the rail for trainer Kevin Attard.
