Philadelphia Park track report

At age 10, P Day may be a few steps slower than he was during his last full season of racing in 2003, when he won three stakes, including the Grade 3 Baltimore Breeders' Cup Handicap at Pimlico. But he is still earning his keep in the starter handicap ranks at Philadelphia Park.

Claimed for $4,000 by trainer Martin Ciresa in November when making his first start since May 2003, P Day has been third or better in four of his first five starts for his new connections.

On Jan. 17, P Day won an $8,000 starter handicap going 1 1/16 miles, his first victory since the Baltimore BC in April 2003. P Day followed by finishing second to stablemate Midnight Charlie in another starter handicap at 1 1/8 miles on Tuesday.

In his long career, P Day has won 17 of 56 starts, including six stakes, and nearly $700,000.

* Tara Jean proved just as popular at the claiming box in her first start at Philadelphia Park as she was last fall in Chicago.

Trainer Mark Shuman, acting on behalf of owner Michael Gill, claimed Tara Jean out of her winning effort in Monday's seventh race for $16,000. It marked the fourth straight race in which Tara Jean has changed hands via a claim, including three times between Oct. 28 and Dec. 22 at Hawthorne.

A 6-year-old mare, Tara Jean has won each of her last three races and finished a close second before that, while racing for prices ranging from $8,000 to $16,000.
