Philadelphia: 'Joseph' gets sweet ride
Prince Joseph, helped by a scratched morning-line favorite and a cagey Anthony Black ride, won the $52,950 Iroquois Handicap at Philadelphia Park.
Black had Prince Joseph on the lead early in the 1 1/16-mile race, eased him back to second behind pacesetter Valleyman for a while, then regained the lead in midstretch and drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths.
Prince Joseph was timed in 1:43.31 over a fast track and paid $6.40. Docent, the 6-5 favorite, was in contention on the turn but gave way.
Presidentialaffair, the 8-5 morning-line favorite who was cross-entered in the Grade 3, $100,000 Salvator Mile Handicap at Monmouth Park on Sunday, was scratched.
