Pessin relocating stable to Arlington for summer

With the Churchill barn area being vacated this summer because of the massive renovation of the turf course, Neil Pessin is taking his stable to his former longtime stomping grounds at Arlington Park. Among the horses headed to the northwest Chicago track is Bell’s the One, whose victory in the Roxelana on June 19 at Churchill took her past the $1 million earnings mark.
The Grade 1 Ballerina on Aug. 28 at Saratoga is a possible next start for Bell’s the One “if she’s coming out of her skin,” Pessin said. “Otherwise, we’ll just wait for the Keeneland race,” the Oct. 9 Thoroughbred Club of America.
Pessin, a noted foodie, said he tried to get stalls at Ellis but was turned down because of overcrowding.
“That’s fine,” he said. “Now I can get my last Chicago restaurant tour in. I’ve already got my first three nights planned. I’m sure the food is better there than at Ellis.”
RSLP adds two more
Brook Smith, who claimed three 2-year-olds for $100,000 each out of the same June 19 maiden race at Churchill in a move that stunned even longtime observers, has added two private purchases to his RSLP stable.

They are Land Remembered, a romping first-out winner at Arlington last month, and Watch the Music, an unraced gelding who has been training at Lone Star. Both are 2-year-olds who will be trained by Reeve McGaughey at Keeneland.
RSLP (Rocket Ship Launching Pad) is the latest entrepreneurial endeavor for Smith, a private investor and philanthropist. The three claimed horses from the Churchill race are in training with Jeff Hiles at High Pointe in La Grange, Ky.
