Perseverancia must overcome difficult post in allowance

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Perseverancia has shown lots of ability in her two Woodbine outings, but is she a vulnerable favorite in Sunday’s featured allowance going 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf?
Perseverancia mounted a visually impressive rally to win her first start for trainer Darwin Banach by five lengths in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special July 25. She went on to finish fourth among a good group of 3-year-old fillies in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen, another main turf route Aug. 22.
On Sunday, Perserverancia drew the outside post 10 and seems destined to have a challenging wide trip, with the rail in the speed-friendly lane 3. Rafael Hernandez, aboard for Perseverancia’s maiden win, has the mount on the daughter of California Chrome.
Silent Causeway showed that she can excel on turf when winning her last race on good ground, and the closer could get an ideal setup Sunday.
Silent Causeway faded to sixth after getting fried in a speed duel in her first grass start in July 2020. She went on to endure a heartbreaking nose loss in the restricted Algoma Stakes before tailing off in the fall.
Silent Causeway was second in back-to-back Ontario-sired allowance routes on the Tapeta in her second and third appearances at this meet. She experimented on the turf most recently, and got the job done under Justin Stein in a 1 1/16-mile Ontario-sired allowance on the main course.
Silent Causeway would probably be the main beneficiary if the feature comes off the grass. Ademar Santos inherits the mount on her from Stein, who is sticking with the speedy A Little Voodoo. Laura Krasauskalite trains Silent Causeway, a 4-year-old daughter of top Ontario turf sire Silent Name.
A Little Voodoo gave way late to favored Bella Nina after setting a quick pace in a 1 1/4-mile allowance three weeks ago in her second outing of the year. She was claimed for just $10,000 last October by trainer Denyse McClachrie, who sent her out to win her July 30 season opener for $10,000 when protected by waiver claiming.
November Fog will be a thorn in A Little Voodoo’s side if she employs an aggressive approach. She earned Beyer Speed Figures in the mid 80s when first and second after employing front-running tactics in two straight Ontario-sired allowances on the Tapeta in mid-summer. She stalked in second before fading to fifth in Silent Causeway’s Sept. 6 triumph on the grass.
Sansa’s Vow made a threatening bid before flattening out to third for the second time in a row when adding blinkers for her last engagement.
Stakes-placed Saratoga Vision is dropping off a fifth in the Belle Mahone Stakes. Her lone score came against maidens on the inner turf.
