Perfect trip, nice win for Bai and Bai

DEL MAR, Calif. - A perfect trip led to Bai and Bai's second stakes win of the year in Saturday's $133,900 Solana Beach Handicap for statebred fillies and mares at Del Mar.

Ridden by Aaron Gryder, Bai and Bai ($5.40) ran a mile in 1:34.28, finishing 1 1/2 lengths in front of a fast-closing Spenditallbaby. Gentle Charmer finished third in the field of six. Mood Winner and Sip One for Mom were scratched.

Bai and Bai was third for most of the race, chasing Star Voyager who led by as many as eight lengths through quick fractions of 23.78 and 46.68 seconds. Bai and Bai caught Star Voyager in early stretch and was not threatened late.

Owned by the Bob and Beverly Lewis Trust and trained by Craig Dollase, Bai and Bai, 4, has won 7 of 18 starts and $486,318. She won the Muir Woods Stakes at Golden Gate Fields earlier this year.
