SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Perfect Curls looked in control every step of the way as she scored an easy three-length victory in the $67,350 Wine Country Debutante on Saturday at the Sonoma County Fair. She paid $2.80. The 2-year-old filly notched her third straight victory while winning her second straight stakes, covering six furlongs in 1:11.47. She broke on top, but jockey Michael Martinez was content to let her settle early. Rockin Heather, who set the pace before losing to Perfect Curls in the Juan Gonzalez Memorial at Pleasanton, got off a bit slowly but was hustled to the lead. Perfect Curls sat closer than she did at Pleasanton, moving even with the pacesetter at the furlong pole before pulling away easily. Rockin Heather finished second, three-quarters of a length in front of Bad Girl Bad Girl with Perfect Curls’ stablemate Tiz Blushing fourth another one-half length back. The Cal-bred daughter of Curves ‘n Curls by Perfect Mandate has won three of four starts. She earned $41,000 and has career earnings of $107,700 for her owner GCCI and trainer Cliff Delima. She was a $9,500 yearling purchase at the Northern California sale at Pleasanton last September.
