Percolating gets test in J.W. Sifton

Bill Tallon|Sep 16, 2009

Assiniboia Downs will wrap up its 65-day meeting with cards Friday through Sunday, and a pair of $50,000 stakes for Manitoba-breds will be in the spotlight.

Friday's feature will be the J.W. Sifton, for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles, while Saturday's will be the one-mile Buffalo for 2-year-olds.

Percolating, trained by Chad Torevell, will be seeking to win his third straight race in the J.W. Sifton.

After winning the restricted one-mile Gold Strike by a resounding nine lengths on Aug. 8, Percolating returned three weeks later in a $15,000 optional claiming/first-level allowance and scored by a half-length.

Rohan Singh retains the mount on Percolating, who will begin from the outside post in the field of seven.

One On One, back with his own age group following fourth-place finishes in the 7 1/2-furlong prep for the Agassiz and the one-mile Agassiz itself, should be prominent in this spot.

Last year, One On One ran second in the Buffalo after winning the CTHS Sales Stakes.

Tim Gardiner has his usual call aboard One On One, who is trained by Carl Anderson.

Applicant, winner of the six-furlong CTHS Sales last time out, will be looking to double up when he faces six rivals in the Buffalo.

Trained by Lorna Gray and ridden by leading rider Larren Delorme for the first time, Applicant had come into the CTHS Sales off a second-place maiden finish for a $9,375 claiming price.

Battle Advance, winner of a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race in his debut, and There's a Place, who graduated over five furlongs in his fourth and most recent outing, are the only other winners in the Buffalo lineup.

Singh picks up the mount on Battle Advance, who finished third in the CTHS Sales, while Tyrone Nelson returns aboard There's a Place.

Sunday's nine-race getaway card will be a matinee program, with first post at 1:05 p.m.
