Peppers Pride makes it 7 straight

Peppers Pride, queen of the New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies, kept her record unblemished in Saturday's $125,000 La Coneja Handicap at Sunland Park, but it wasn't easy.

Owned by Joseph Allen and trained by Joel Marr, Peppers Pride went off at 3-5 in the 5 1/2-furlong La Coneja based on her six wins in as many starts. She stalked the pace under Carlos Madeira while boxed in along the rail, found room between horses, and finished gamely to just get up and beat Theregoesdancer by a neck. Theregoesdancer, well back early in the field of 12, rallied smartly as the second choice, ending up nearly three lengths clear of third finisher Hang Glide.

Peppers Pride paid $3.40 for the win, running the distance in 1:04.43 on the fast main track. The winner's share of $75,000 pushes her career earnings to $392,105 from seven wins in as many starts.
