Peppers Pride gets another shot

Mary Rampellini|Sep 29, 2008

The undefeated Peppers Pride will attempt to set a record for consecutive wins by a North American-based Thoroughbred on Saturday at Zia Park, when she shoots for her 17th career win in the eighth race, a $35,000 optional claiming allowance. It will be run over six furlongs, and it is restricted to fillies and mares bred in New Mexico.

Peppers Pride shares the modern mark of 16 consecutive wins with Cigar, Citation, Hallowed Dreams and Mister Frisky. She twice has been entered in races to attempt to break the record, but heavy rain dashed both chances. An entire card was canceled on one occasion, and on another she was scratched by her trainer, Joel Marr.
