Penwith easily wins return race

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin was extremely pleased with the performance of Penwith here Thursday. Penwith returned from an 11-month layoff to register a two-length allowance victory over the graded-stakes-placed Stiffed under confident handling by jockey Joel Rosario.
“It was a great effort off a long layoff,” said McLaughlin.
The Grade 2 stakes-placed Penwith had been sidelined because of a small ankle chip.
“With the time off, she’s matured into a real beautiful mare,” said McLaughlin. “Hopefully, we have a stakes filly on our hands.”
Penwith’s victory was one of two on the card for Rosario, who also won with Old Sport for trainer Todd Pletcher later in the day. Emisael Jaramillo also registered a riding double Thursday with My Good Venezuela and Del Cielo.
