Pens Street back home after disappointing road trip

Following a disappointing effort as the favorite at Monmouth Park, Pens Street should appreciate being back home when she runs in the featured race Friday at Gulfstream Park.
The one-mile allowance race for fillies and mares appears wide open. It drew six horses and goes as the eighth race on a nine-race card that begins at 2 p.m. Eastern.
The Rohan Crichton-trained Pens Street is eligible for the second-level allowance conditions of a race that also is open to nonwinners since March 24. Indicia, who figures to be the longest price in the competitive field, is the only horse taking advantage of the $62,500 claiming option.
Prior to finishing fourth in a second-level allowance race that carried a $30,000 claiming option at Monmouth, Pens Street forced the issue before drawing off to win a first-level allowance race on Aug. 6 at Gulfstream.
The winner of the Monmouth race, Daria’s Angel, is a stakes winner with $515,174 in earnings. Daria’s Angel was winning her third race in her last five starts, with one of her two runner-up finishes coming in the $60,000 Sis City at Aqueduct.
A 3-year-old Kentucky-bred by Street Sense, Pens Street will appreciate the easier company she is facing and should get a similar trip to her Aug. 6 win. With a bullet four-furlong work in 46.80 seconds on Sept. 16, she also appears to be primed for a strong effort.

She will break from the rail with Jose Moreles riding.
The only other sophomore in the field, Starship Nterprise, will be looking for her first win on dirt. However, the Kentucky-bred daughter of Honor Code finished second by a neck on the main track in the $75,000 Monroe on July 24. The one-mile race for fillies and mares was originally scheduled for turf.
Trained by Steven Dwoskin, Starship Nterprise won the $75,000 Martha Washington for 3-year-old fillies in her previous start June 19. Her only other win came in a $50,000 maiden claimer on May 23.
Starship Nterprise is coming off a fourth-place finish in the $75,000 Miss Gracie on Sept. 4, a race that was dominated by heavily favored Sunshine City. Starship Nterprise had to go wide when trying to get into the race on the stretch turn and finished with some interest once straightened out in the lane.
She will break from post 3 and could be dangerous from a stalking position with Miguel Vasquez up.
Dance d’Oro is coming off back-to-back double-digit losses for trainer Ralph Nicks, but could be the one they have to run down. She also has been freshened since she finished last in her first try on turf June 20. Over the past five years, Nicks has a solid 17 percent strike rate and $1.69 ROI with horses coming back between 61-180 days.
Leading rider Edgard Zayas will be aboard when she breaks between Pens Street and Starship Nterprise.
