Trainer Dimitrios Synnefias has sensational statistics with horses he has recently claimed. Since January 2003, Synnefias has gone 9 for 28 with a $7.68 ROI first time off the claim.

Bettors unaware of his prowess allowed Holdeverything ($22.40) to go off at a big price in last Friday's eighth race at Penn National. Moving up to face straight maidens after being claimed for $7,500 on Feb. 3, the 4-year-old Holdeverything romped by 12 lengths going a mile.

Synnefias made a bold move on last Thursday's program when he risked $13,000 to take first-time starter Personal Devil out of the first race. Personal Devil, a 3-year-old filly formerly in the barn of Clovis Crane, won a 4 1/2-furlong sprint for maiden claimers by three-quarters of a length, paying $10.80.

Penn National players ought to watch out for Personal Devil along with two others Synnefias claimed earlier this month, Clever Book ($3,500 claim, Feb. 11) and Tomorrow's Number ($4,000, Feb. 5).

* Oberwald, idle since he was claimed for $14,000 on Dec. 18 by Jose Martinez, returned to win an allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs on Saturday. It was the fourth win in the last five starts for the 5-year-old Oberwald.
