Penn National track report

No matter which set of numbers you choose to focus on, they all point out Manhattan Appeal as a huge threat in Friday night's $50,000 Blue Mountain Juvenile, a six-furlong race for Pennsylvania-bred 2-year-old fillies at Penn National.

Manhattan Appeal will be making her first start since she was claimed for $40,000 by trainer Steve Klesaris last month at Delaware Park, and she adds blinkers. Klesaris shows 32 percent success with a $3.36 return on investment the past two years with first-time blinkers and is a healthy 22 percent, $1.93 ROI first time off the claim.

In addition, Manhattan Appeal boasts the best last-race Beyer Speed Figure (58) among the full field of 12 and will be ridden by Norberto Arroyo, who is 4 for 10 in stakes aboard Klesaris-trained runners this season.

Trainer Tim Kelly's entry of Princess Lana and Rhythmically poses the biggest challenge to Manhattan Appeal.

Two starts ago, Princess Lana set the pace and weakened against Toll Taker, a filly who won the Grade 3 Astarita at Belmont Park in her most recent start.

Elvis Trujillo, who has ridden Princess Lana in three of her four starts, has instead chosen to ride the maiden Rhythmically, however. Rhythmically makes her second start off a long layoff, and if she moves forward at all, she will be dangerous against this group.

Redaspen, Webers Drive In, and Wise Girl Karma all come off maiden wins at Philadelphia Park with Beyers within 3 points of each other.
