Penn closing six weeks for slots work

Penn National Race Course intends to suspend live racing for approximately six weeks, beginning in late December, while construction workers move equipment and electronic systems into the track's new slot-machine casino.

Track officials announced this week that Friday, Dec. 21 will be the last day of live racing for 2007. Assuming there are no changes or delays in the current construction schedule, live racing will resume on Feb. 5, 2008, with the opening of Penn National's new five-story, 365,000-square foot facility that will include 2,000 slot machines, a lounge with live entertainment, and a five-story parking garage.
