Penn, Charles Town cancel weekend cards

Penn National Race Course and its sister track Charles Town have called off their live racing cards for Friday and Saturday nights in the aftermath of the snowstorm that hit the Mid-Atlantic region earlier this week. Charles Town also called off its Sunday afternoon program.

Both tracks expect to resume live racing on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

In central Pennsylvania, more than 15 inches of snow fell from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night. This was on top of the 20 inches that blanketed the region last weekend.

"Our efforts right now are on cleaning things up in the barn area and working on taking the snow off the racetrack," said Rob Marella, director of racing. "Our track maintenance crew is working around the clock to get these things accomplished so our horsemen can get back on their training schedule."
