Pegasus a possibility for Seeking the Soul
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – You might say November went pretty well for Dallas Stewart.
The 58-year-old trainer not only has a prime contender for the $16 million Pegasus World Cup in Forever Unbridled, but he might well have a second in Seeking the Soul, whose breakthrough victory Friday in the Grade 1 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs has landed the 4-year-old colt in the top echelon of prospects for the North American older-horse division for 2018.
Seeking the Soul, like Forever Unbridled, is owned by his breeder, Charles Fipke.
“We haven’t even talked about the Pegasus yet for Seeking the Soul,” Stewart said Sunday, referring to the Jan. 27 race at Gulfstream Park. “I’m sure we will soon, though. The main thing is the horse came out of the race great. We’ll have a plan soon enough.”
With the bulk of the Stewart stable shipping Tuesday from Churchill to his winter base at Fair Grounds in New Orleans, Stewart said Forever Unbridled would have her first breeze toward the Pegasus “probably a couple weeks after we get down there.” The 5-year-old mare is a shoo-in for a divisional Eclipse Award after winning the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar in her last start.
