Pedigree suggests Way Out West can handle distance in CTBA Derby

Way Out West will bring a supportive pedigree to the table Saturday, when he makes his two-turn debut in the $40,000 CTBA Derby at Arapahoe Park. He is a son of Fusaichi Pegasus, the Kentucky Derby winner in 2000.
The CTBA Derby is a 1 1/16-mile race restricted to 3-year-olds bred in Colorado.
Way Out West is not alone in his quest for two-turn success. None of his 11 rivals has won at the trip, and just one, Sherman T, has raced beyond six furlongs, going a mile last out when eighth in an allowance at Arapahoe.
