Kenny Peck’s Tampa Bay analysis for Sunday, April 26, 2020 BEST BET: Venezuelan Warrior (9th race) First Race 1. Kholstomer 2. Enjoy Baseball 3. Teddy's Honor KHOLSTOMER is too obvious to offer any kind of value but he's too tough to pass up in this spot as he has a good-sized Beyer edge and he looms the controlling speed in this opener, which is a little light on pace. Up the course on the turf last time but he does seem to be at his best on the main track. ENJOY BASEBALL was impressive in that maiden score in his first start off the layoff, and though he makes his first start against winners he merits a look off that effort/Beyer. TEDDY'S HONOR switches from turf to dirt, and that last one, a turf route, is easily forgiven as he does seem to be best sprinting on the main track; tactical speed a plus given the expected pace scenario. Second Race 1. Ivorysgoldtreasure 2. Guess It's Katz 3. R D Blessing IVORYSGOLDTREASURE has been turfing and now makes her first start on the main track, and while it's hard to say how she'll handle this surface the appeal lies in her running style as she's a closer and there looks to be a fair amount of speed in this field. Eligible to make the last run if she gets a clean trip behind a quick, contested pace. GUESS IT'S KATZ was off slowly in an abbreviated sprint in her bow and that left her with too much to do. Certainly has license to improve with a clean start on the stretch out, and the fact that that debut proved to be a key race adds to the appeal. R D BLESSING, like the top pick, fits the projected pace profile, as she did in her latest. Clearly capable of making the last run with a similar effort today. :: Bet the races online with DRF Bets. Drive In R CALLI KIM is kin to two starters, both of them winners, including Reconciling, a seven-time winner who earned over $108K. This filly meets a seemingly average field for this class level and time of year and her works suggest she's ready to come out running for high-percentage trainer Georgina Baxter. ETTAPLACE moves from turf to dirt for trainer Aldana Gonzalez, who has done well with that angle of late, albeit from a limited sample of runners. Showed good speed from a wide post in her latest before she faltered late. DRIVE IN is the one to beat after running 2nd in each of her last two under conditions similar to today's. Obviously a big threat, though she figures to be well bet. Fourth Race 1. Northern 2. Nick the Cardshark 3. Yabba Dabba Dude NORTHERN rises after winning two straight but he may be good enough to handle better in his current form, especially as he figures to fit a very nice trip off a pressured pace here. He draws wide but he's plenty quick enough to get early position and could well be ideally spotted off the pacesetters. NICK THE CARDSHARK was a game winner when last seen, and he's also up in class for this. He was just off the pace in that score and figures to be in a similar spot today, and with that type of stalking trip he'll be tough late. YABBA DABBA DUDE turns back to a sprint and lures top rider Antonio Gallardo. He's another who stands to benefit from a lively tempo up front, thanks to the presence of confirmed speed to his inside and out. Fifth Race 1. All Good Times 2. Proposition 3. Our Promise ALL GOOD TIMES may well want more ground than this but with runners like PROPOSITION and J'S INDIAN CHARM expected to set the table for the closers she may be able to run them down on the wire; note the win in December in her second start back following a similar break. Proposition is the one to catch and beat, and that won't be easy if she's able to shake off any pace pressure with relative ease. Easy win over this strip two back makes her very easy to like even if she tired after a duel in her latest at Fair Grounds. OUR PROMISE makes his seasonal debut and is another who would appreciate a fast, contested pace up front. Sixth Race 1. Tony's Rose 2. Malibeauty 3. Stop War TONY'S ROSE posted her lone win to date on the turf, a plus if this race stays on the grass, but she's also a threat on the main track as that effort at Woodbine in her career debut wasn't bad, albeit on a synthetic surface. Like the fact that she has proven she can take back and make one run, as there's speed to her inside. MALIBEAUTY is entered for the main track only and she'll clearly be a contender if allowed to run. She's another who showed in her maiden score that she can rate effectively, no small consideration against a field comprised largely of speed types. STOP WAR may be the one to beat if this stays on the green, as she comes off a maiden win on the turf in her latest; that followed a solid try in her first start on the surface, and though both of those were routes trainer Christophe Clement excels with horses turning back from routes to sprints. Seventh Race 1. Katie Faloona 2. Upper Charlize Ds 3. Jost Dreamy KATIE FALOONA didn't get as much pace as expected last time and that made it tough for her to close ground but she didn't run a bad race in defeat; now gets more ground and should make her presence felt in the lane if she gets an improved race flow. UPPER CHARLIZE DS is another looking to make the last run as she stretches out from a sprint to a route. Latest was her best yet in terms of Beyers, as she has incrementally improved with each start since the return from the layoff. JOST DREAMY gets back on the main track, which she clearly prefers at this stage, and trainer Darien Rodriguez does very well with horses making this surface switch, as well as with nearly all types. Has the speed to stay close from the start. Eighth Race 1. Tiz Samurai 2. High Rolling Dude 3. Tactical Quality TIZ SAMURAI has been in nothing but tough spots in terms of pace, both in his races since returning from the break as well as in his starts in Illinois before the layoff. Draws widest today but still seems quick enough to get clear in the opening stages, and with a loose lead he should be able to back down the fractions sufficiently enough to win this gate to wire. HIGH ROLLING DUDE may have been overmatched when in against slightly better in his latest but he merits respect off the figure he posted in the win two back; dangerous given another perfect stalking trip, like the one he received there. Cross out those two races against open claimers on the turf for TACTICAL QUALITY and he fits here, as the win three back puts him in the mix, even if it came against nonwinners-of-three lifetime. Ninth Race 1. Venezuelan Warrior 2. Karma King 3. Double Deep VENEZUELAN WARRIOR adds blinkers for trainer Juan Arriagada and that has been a strong angle for the barn of late. He cuts back to 5 1/2 furlongs, is proven at this distance, and he should be well set up to make the last run with several confirmed speeds to his inside and out. KARMA KING is another who figures to sit a nice trip off a contested pace, and he should be able to use his inside post to his best advantage. Down in class and price, he now faces nonwinners of two races in six months after facing open company in each of his last three. DOUBLE DEEP takes a short step up after a game win vs. nonwinners of one in six months but that was a game winner last time out. He was on the lead there but he can also rate off the pace if need be.
