Peck: Saratoga pick four for Friday, Aug. 14

Saratoga's late pick four on Friday looks like a very playable sequence.

RACE 7: BAY DAWN hasn't been out since May, but I've been waiting for her return, as she was most impressive in defeat then. She had trouble but closed strongly to just miss, and she may be overlooked a bit here. Other "A" plays include JEWELISA (neck short in a similar spot last time) and OUTER ORBIT (dangerous speed). The lone "B" play is RAMBLE, a filly with back figures plenty good enough to win this but also a suspicious dropdown off the short layoff.

RACE 8: Standing alone on any and all tickets with favorite CONQUEST SUPERSTEP, who owns a decided Beyer edge on all runners except the 1-for-25 Prize Taker. She may also own a pace advantage.

RACE 9: STRICT COMPLIANCE rallied smartly after racing well off the early pace in the Belmont Oaks, finishing within four lengths of Lady Eli. There's some concern there won't be enough pace for her in this short field, so I'll also make MISS TEMPLE CITY an "A" as she may shake loose today. CONSUMER CREDIT is the lone "B."

RACE 10: SAUVIGNON is easy to like off her latest, when a close second going seven panels. But BARREL OF DREAMS is a longshot with a big chance, as her latest was much improved and her most recent work indicates she retains her form. Backup tickets will include favorite ESTHER THE QUEEN and firster J'RAY'S SUNSHINE.
