Peck: Pimlico pick four play for Friday, May 19

The main event at Pimlico this weekend is Saturday, but Friday's card offers plenty of solid betting opportunities, including the pick four comprising races 8 through 11:

RACE 8: COMPELLED was a close third against a good group in the Florida Oaks when last seen, yet another solid effort for a filly who has yet to run a bad race. HAPPY MESA has a good late kick and her last couple of Beyers fit nicely.

A's: 5

B's: 12

C's: NONE

RACE 9: R ANGEL KATELYN has won 4 of her last 5, all stakes, with her lone loss coming in a route race. OUR MAJESTY, undefeated in three starts, is easy to like off her last Beyer, and she proved there that she doesn't need the lead. TOO MUCH TIP has to be respected given the connections and her overall race record.

A's: 5, 10

B's: 1

C's: NONE

RACE 10: ALPHA SLEW has speed and the hedge. AMELIA'S WILD RIDE has tremendous back figures -- the long layoff is the main concern. GRANDIFLORA ran a huge race in her comeback and could be a new horse in 2017. PAY ANY PRICE has the best figures in the field. You cannot leave out BEN'S CAT, who seeks his fifth straight win in this Jim McKay Turf Sprint. TAKE COVER hails from a barn that excels with this type. GRAND CANDY has been running against some solid turf sprinters of late. RICHARD'S BOY could prove the main speed. PLATINUM PRINCE fits based on his two most recent figures (9).

A's: 4, 7, 10

B's: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 14

C's: NONE

RACE 11: CORPORATE QUEEN could sit a perfect trip behind the leaders in the Black-Eyed Susan, and if the fractions are on the quick side she stands to improve off her last two, where she was against the race flow. MOANA is dangerous despite facing winners for the first time in this Grade 2 test, as long as she can avoid getting caught in the pace mix. SUMMER LUCK was hurt by slow splits in her latest but should get a better setup this afternoon. TAPA TAPA TAPA may be best of the front-runners.

A's: 6, 7, 9

B's: 2

C's: NONE

THE PLAY: 5, 12 / 1, 5, 10 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14 / 2, 6, 7, 9 = 216 Combinations ($108 Ticket)
