Peck: Pick four for Maryland Million Day at Laurel Park
It's Maryland Million Day at Laurel, and as usual, it's a very interesting card. Here's a look at the 50-cent pick four starting with race 5:
RACE 5: Many will concede the Maryland Million Sprint to LEWISFIELD, who is indeed the most likely winner. But he is best when on the lead, and there is other speed in here, enough to warrant using other horses in the sequence as well. Handicappers would want to weight the horses in the race according to their own preference, but for the purposes of this ticket, I'll use STOLEN LOVE and NO MORE TALK as the
A's: 4, 8
B's: 2
C's: NONE
RACE 6: SCRAP COPPER is easy to like and to use off that last one, even if it was run on the turf. FOLLOW THE DOG is wide, but he has some tactical speed, and he fits well based on his figures.
A's: 5, 11
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
RACE 7: ZEN'S LAND has steady turf figures and a closing kick that should work to his advantage given the expected race flow. SENOR LOUIE is a contender with these based on his best figures, and he comes off an easy score at Suffolk. HERE'S TO MIKE went down as the favorite when last seen, but he didn't get a lot of pace help; could be expected to move up here with a better setup. REDEEMED GENTLEMAN hasn't gotten the swiftest of fractions of late either, and he could improve quickly and dramatically if he gets quicker splits today.
A's: 4, 10, 11
B's: 1
C's: NONE
RACE 8: GAMBLIN eyes his fourth straight, clearly in good form and with the versatility to lead or rate. HELLOITSME was claimed for the third straight time at Parx in his first start off the bench; he finished off the board there, but he was moving well through the lane. WORTH HIS SALT will need to overcome the wide draw, but he does have the tactical speed to get position immediately (3).
A's: 4, 5, 14
