Peck: Penn National late pick four play for Saturday, June 1, 2019
Solid card at Penn National, and the late pick four comprises all stakes races. Here's a look:
RACE 8: Using all five that are left in here after scratches betting interests, as the Susquehanna Stakes is fairly wide open, and later legs in this sequence seem easier to pare down. SOUPER STRIKING and ENCHANTED GHOST are horses I'll use as A plays, but I'll use them all to some degree.
A's: 5, 7
B's: 2, 4
C's: 6
RACE 9: PURE SENSATION is easy to like, with eight turf sprint wins to his credit and coming off a solid race at Gulfstream, but I'll also include COMPLETED PASS. The latter doesn't have the experience of the possible favorite, but he does have a lot of upside as he makes only his third career start on the turf, and he couldn't have been much sharper in his first two tries.
A's: 1, 2
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
RACE 10: Standing alone with REGAL GLORY, who not only has an edge in Beyers but she also has the versatility to work out a favorable trip regardless of race flow. She turned in a very sharp work for this, and she obviously has top connections. Short price likely, but it seems silly to dilute the ticket by trying to beat her here.
A's: 7
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
RACE 11: A THREAD OF BLUE has speed and an inside post, coming off a game loss in the Grade 2 American Turf at Churchill. That broke a three-race win streak but he can certainly get back on track in this Penn Mile if he's not pushed too hard in the opening stages. THE BLACK ALBUM might be the main threat in the lane; he comes out of the same race as A Thread of Blue, and while he was no real threat there he can turn the tables in this rematch if he gets a quick, contested pace up front.
A's: 2, 6
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
With a $30 bankroll, one could play a $2 all A ticket, and $1 tickets incorporating the B and C plays, for a total of $28.
