Peck: Monmouth pick four play for Sunday, July 5
A very nice card on United Nations Day at Monmouth, with the better races on the back end. Here's a look at the late pick four.
Race 9
CASUAL SMILE impressed in that local maiden score, and she can repeat in her first start against winners if she's able to run back to that figure. EMPRESS MAKER ships in with a declining Beyer pattern, but she figures to improve against these as this is not an especially deep N1X turf race (2).

Race 10
RACE DAY returns after a short rest for Todd Pletcher. He looms tough in terms of his figures. He also figures to sit a nice trip behind a contested pace. VALID will be part of that early mix, and he does seem to be the best of the speeds (2).

Race 11
BIG BLUE KITTEN, who won this race in 2013, never runs a poor race, and he seems positioned to take a slight move forward here, not only making his third start off the layoff but also getting more distance, which he seems to prefer. MAIN SEQUENCE, the 2014 United Nations winner, of course belongs on all tickets, though it's never a good idea to expect a top effort from horses making their first starts upon returning from Dubai (2).

Race 12
Leaning heavily on DON'S MARSH, who closed very well in his latest. He figures to get a very good set-up in this spot, with a couple of speeds to the inside and another on the rail. But while he will be on all tickets, I'll also include firster INTREPID SON as a backup as he has some decent works showing (2).
