Peck: Lone Star late pick four for Sunday, July 15
The key to the late pick four at Lone Star on Sunday may be Kat's Infatuation, who has been away for nearly a year but makes her return in the Valor Farm Stakes, the third leg of the sequence. On the plus side, she has been working well, and trainer Bret Calhoun does well with horses coming off extended breaks. Race favorites Zippit E and Prada's Bling are both at their best on the front end, and if they end up in a duel, Kat's Infatuation could find herself ideally spotted behind that pair.
With Kat's Infatuation as a key, here's a potential pick-four ticket for races 7-10:
RACE 7: RUMPOLE lost his last two to SUPERMASON, but he was caught up in a duel each time. He may well be able to shake loose and control the pace in the Assault Stakes, as he gets the best of the draw, and given that luxury, he can turn the tables despite the extra distance. SUPERMASON will keep RUMPOLE close from the start; he's tough to leave out. If the top two should hook up in a race-long duel, perhaps GALACTICA would be the one to benefit most (3).
RACE 8: Feel a spread is necessary in the fillies division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity, a typically wide-open statebred race for 2-year-old fillies. Will go as deep as the bankroll allows, as the males’ division isn't any clearer. ADVENTUROUS LADY, METALLIC SILVER, SILVER MOON RISING, TINSELTOWN FLYER, SILVERCENTS, and PRINCESS GOLDIE will have to do (6).
RACE 9: KAT'S INFATUATION has been working very well toward her return for a high-percentage barn. She should be ideally positioned behind a quick, contested pace, and she figures tough if ready. Given the barn's record with absentees, there's a good chance she will be (1).
RACE 10: STUPIFY was a game winner in his debut. WAKEFIELD showed a rating gear in his debut win that should come in handy today. SILVER AND ACES debuts in this stakes race but has some interesting works. MORO CHARLIE figures to benefit from a lively pace up front. E RATED was an easy winner in his first start; needs to overcome post 12 (5).
THE PLAY: 1, 4, 5 / 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 / 6 / 6, 7, 9, 11, 12 = 90 combinations ($45 ticket).
