Peck: Late pick four for Breeders' Cup Friday card

Kenny Peck|Nov 02, 2018

The late pick four on Friday's Breeders' Cup card is, of course, full of possibilities and value. It begins with race 6 (4 p.m. Eastern). Here's one way to play it:

RACE 6 (JUVENILE FILLIES TURF): THE MACKEM BULLET figures to be prominent from the start from her inside post. LILY'S CANDLE was a game winner despite traffic trouble last time, her third win in her last four starts. JUST WONDERFUL lost her best chance at the start two back, but she's otherwise in top form. NEWSPAPEROFRECORD is the one to beat, with two easy wins in as many starts. LADY PRANCEALOT is a longshot with some appeal, as she could fall into a nice trip given quick splits up front. SUMMERING went down as the favorite last time, but she hardly ran a poor race.

A's: 2, 6, 11
B's: NONE
C's: 3, 4, 12

RACE 7 (JUVENILE FILLIES): SERENGETI EMPRESS couldn't have won her last two any easier, and she does figure to benefit from a forward trip from her inside post. JAYWALK is the other main speed, and she comes off a very impressive score in the Frizette. RESTLESS RIDER and REFLECT would benefit from lively splits and merit a look.

A's: 2, 7
B's: NONE
C's: 1, 4

RACE 8 (JUVENILE TURF): LINE OF DUTY won the Prix de Conde with relative ease, and he's been first or second in each of his four starts. MUCH BETTER was a beaten 6/5 favorite in his stakes debut last time, but he was game in defeat. ANTHONY VAN DYCK will have to overcome the outside draw, but he's capable on his best.

A's: 3, 5
B's: NONE
C's: 14

RACE 9 (JUVENILE): The scratch of Code of Honor changes the opinion in the Juvenile but not the likely race flow, which should favor runners coming from off the pace. STANDARD DEVIATION was moving well at the end of the Breeders’ Futurity and adds blinkers today for trainer Chad Brown, who has solid stats with that angle. GAME WINNER is clearly the one to beat, though he will likely be overbet. Going to include DERBY DATE, who has lots of upside, as an "A" in the hopes of being alive to something meaningful.

A's: 3, 8, 9
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
