Peck: Keeneland pick four for Saturday, April 22
Saturday's late pick four at Keeneland is a typically playable sequence, with the opening leg seemingly the most manageable. Hopefully, anyway ...
RACE 7: WESTFEST is in for a tag for the first time, and he fits the race nicely on the strength of his Beyer Speed Figures. His early speed is another edge, as there's not a lot of speed in here and he may be able to capitalize on the pace scenario with a forward trip.
A's: 6
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
RACE 8: A very difficult race flow to plot, as nearly all seven of them want to be on the lead. The key is to find the horse who can take back and make one run, and that's not easy. So, I'll go as deep as I can and use five of them: KIDNAP, LENSTAR, BAM BAM BRYAN, AQUAMARINE, and JERSEY STREET.
A's: 3, 6, 7
B's: 2, 5
C's: NONE
RACE 9: A very competitive Elkhorn, a 1 1/2-mile turf test that likely will come down to jockey tactics and trips. Those are two things that are difficult to predict, making handicapping the race difficult, and when most of the field is separated by only a few points in terms of their Beyers, it's nearly impossible. Using them all and hoping for something chaotic.
A's: 2, 6, 8
B's: 3, 4, 5, 9
C's: 1, 7, 10, 11
RACE 10: DREAMIN OF DELLA has some nice works showing for her debut, good enough for her to merit inclusion against the likely heavy favorite, AWESTRUCK, who is going to be a handful. She went down as a heavy favorite in her latest, but a slow start cost her, and she may not have wanted to go that far, especially while under pressure the whole way; must use.
A's: 2, 3
B's: NONE
C's: NONE
