Keeneland

Peck: Keeneland pick five play for Friday, Oct. 2, 2020

Kenny Peck|Sep 30, 2020

RACE 6: The opening leg of the pick five is fairly wide open, no real surprise given it's a full field of 2-year-old fillies going long on the main track, many for the first time. I'll use all 10 and wrap it up and narrow the ticket down in later stages.

RACE 7: ELLA BRILLA (4) didn't break well in that last one, but she could be the main speed in this paceless race if she's able to get away cleanly this time around. I HEAR YOU (5) has improved with each start in terms of Beyer Speed Figures and will be tough here if she can take another step forward. LUCK MONEY (8) merits respect off that last effort and figure, even if she is more likely to regress than she is to run to it. Even if she were to "bounce," she may be good enough to win this, however.

RACE 8: There is a good amount of speed in this Grade 2 Phoenix Stakes, but NO PAROLE (5) could well be on another level, and he could shake loose here regardless of the presence of some very quick rivals. He's undefeated in three starts at this distance and was against the race flow in each of his last four, including three races going longer; expecting another big effort.

RACE 9: SIMPLY RAVISHING (7) is the one to beat on the strength of the Beyer she posted in that win in the P.G. Johnson, a race that was rained off the turf onto the main track. It turns out she may well be at her best on this surface, and if she can get loose against this short field she could prove tough to reel in and notch her third straight score.

RACE 10: ROYAL PRINCE (3) is easy to like after "winning" his latest, at Kentucky Downs, a race declared no contest after a malfunction caused the gate to open with two starters still not loaded. His prior try also was solid, and the Beyer he posted there stands out. But STORMING LION (2) did impress in defeat in his debut, and he could improve in this finale given a quick pace up front. RISK MANAGER (14) is stuck on the also-eligible list, but he has some works that strongly hint at ability. He has to be considered, if he's able to draw in.

THE PLAY: ALL / 4, 5, 8 / 5 / 7 / 2, 3, 14 = 90 Combinations ($45 Ticket).
