Peck: How I'll play Laurel for Saturday, Sept. 24
A look at the mid-program pick four at Laurel Park on Saturday, part of the "Class on the Grass" card:
Race 4: SECRET OR NOT has a decent closing kick but can also stay close if need be, an important consideration if the pace is on the slow side. SKIPALUTE was off the board in each of her first two tries on grass but the resulting Beyers give her strong credibility. COMPLETE ST. was closing well at the end of her latest, at Kentucky Downs, and she posted another improved figure in the process. HOOLIGAN could be the one they have to catch.
Race 5: PRICEDTOPERFECTION had some trouble at Saratoga last time out but she certainly has room to improve here with a clean trip. MY IMPRESSION lost her best chance at the start in her most recent. STELLA ROSE has certainly moved way up since switched to the turf and her versatility has proven key. INVOLUNTARY fits well enough with these based on her best Beyers.
Race 6: BLACKTYPE is easy to like on the strength of those last two efforts and figures, both victories. MARCH closed nicely in a race featuring a controlled, modest pace in his latest, and the Beyers he posted in each of his last two make him a top contender here. FORCE THE PASS has some recent figures that put him in the middle of this.
Race 7: REVVED UP comes off a couple of wins for trainer Shug McGaughey and his most recent breezes strongly indicate that he retains his sharp form. AMERICAN PATRIOT is the main danger, having won three of his last five starts, and though he came up short last time he did post the best Beyer of his short career (2).
The Play: 1, 5, 7, 8/1, 7, 9, 10/7, 11, 12/2, 5 = 96 combinations at 50 cents($48 ticket)
