Peck: How I'll play Canterbury Pick 4 for Saturday, June 23

Kenny Peck|Jun 23, 2018

It's a big day at Canterbury on Saturday. Here's a look at the Pick 4 offered on races 3 through 6, featuring four stakes races, including the $200,000 Mystic Lake Derby. Post time for the first leg (race 3) is 8:11 p.m. ET.

RACE 3: LOVELY LOYREE hasn't been out since March, but trainer Michele Boyce does well with runners off this type of intermediate layoff; tactical speed a big plus. BURMA ROAD figures to be prominent from the start. SIRENUSA fits well off the Beyer she earned in that last stakes score. SUSIE BEE could be perfectly set up by a quick, contested pace. I'M BETTY G is best when on the lead, but also has shown a bit of a rating gear (5).

RACE 4: IBAKA may be the one they have to catch. MAJESTIC PRIDE stretches out off a sprint in his seasonal bow, loves this course. GREAT WIDE OPEN has speed but can rate a bit. SWAGGER JAGGER merits respect off his most recent Beyer, even if it came in March, he's been training well toward his return. PATRIOTS RULE has back turf figures that put him in the middle of this. HAY DAKOTA can prove a threat here if he moves forward off his first start since November last time out (6).

RACE 5: CAPTIVATING MOON was 2nd in each of his last three and he met better in his last two; clearly the one to beat. RERIDE won in his first and only try to date on the grass; positional speed and connections make him easy to like (2).

RACE 6: WINGS LOCKED UP is the main pacesetter, and he could get brave if allowed to set his own tempo on a clear lead. His only sub-par try of late came when he was in the Grade 3 Count Fleet at Oaklawn, against Whitmore, and he was caught up in a duel there. If he can shake loose easily enough he has license to steal this (1).

THE PLAY: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 / 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11 / 6, 13 / 7 = 60 Combinations ($30 Ticket)
