Peck: How I'd play Pimlico for Friday, May 15
Handicappers Matt Bernier and Kenny Peck are going head to head with $500 to wager on the Black-Eyed Susan Day card at Pimlico.
Matt Bernier and I will lace them up again after a forgettable Kentucky Derby weekend. With fresh loaves of $500 apiece each day, we will go through the cards on Friday and Saturday and come up with some plays. Here are mine:
RACE 3: T SIZZLE (#8) has sprinted on turf only twice and he ran well each time, finishing second both times. The resulting Beyers fit well and though he has been away, trainer Mike Trombetta - who does well with turf sprinters -- has him working well toward his return.
THE PLAY: $100 WIN #8
RACE 9: Can't find an excuse for the sub-par effort for AMELIA'S WILD RIDE (#9) in the Shakertown - perhaps he was simply overmatched. I will buy that, and expect him to run to his prior Beyers, which are plenty good enough to win this, especially since they're at this same five-furlong distance.
THE PLAY: $100 WIN #9

RACE 11: I will try some trifectas in the Black-Eyed Susan using LUMINANCE (#8), as she does loom the main speed. I will also lean heavily on GYPSY JUDY (#4), who has enough early zip to stay close, and figures to offer value, as well as fellow longshots DEVINE AIDA (#7) and KEEN PAULINE (#9), others who should benefit from the race flow:
$5 TRIFECTA 8 / 4, 7, 9 / 4, 7, 9 ($30)
$4 TRIFECTA 4, 7, 9 / 8 / 4, 7, 9 ($24)
$3 TRIFECTA 4, 7, 9 / 4, 7, 9 / 8 ($18)
$1 TRIFECTA 8 / 4, 7, 9 / ALL ($21)
$1 TRIFECTA 8 / ALL / 4, 7, 9 ($21)
$ TRIFECTA BOX 4, 7, 9 ($6)
PICK 4 (RACES 11-14)
$4 PICK 4: 8 / 5 / 9 / 9, 10 ($8)
$4 PICK 4: 8 / 5 / 6, 7, 9 / 9, 10 ($24)
$2 PICK 4: 4, 7, 9 / 5 / 6, 7, 9 / 9, 10 ($36)
$1 PICK 4: 8 / 4, 7 / 6, 7, 9 / 9, 10 ($12) RACE TOTAL: $200
RACE 13: The lack of pace in this race should favor VELVET TIE (#9), who may be the main speed in the field. She won her latest by coming from just off the pace but she won her maiden two back when on the lead, and if she can shake loose she may be able to steal this.
THE PLAY: $100 WIN #9
