Peck: Gulfstream daily double play for Saturday, Dec. 5
With (very) uncertain weather in south Florida this weekend, I thought it would be best to avoid the grass races for the opening-day card of Gulfstream Park's championship meet. Every pick three on the program featured at least one turf race, so here's a look at a mid-card daily double:
Race 6
Really like LEDOKOL in this spot as his works say he's ready, and the barn does well off these types of layoffs. He's the only "A" play for me, but I'll also use STALLWALKIN' DUDE, GRANDE SHORES, and TROUBLE KID to a lesser extent.
A's: 8
B's: 7, 9, 11
C's: None
Race 7
AIX EN PROVENCE stretches out, and though he's more experienced in shorter races, he should be well positioned off the speed in this one-turn mile. ELUSIVE HARMONY is the expected pacesetter, and he could get away with soft fractions. Barn's record with horses making their second starts off the layoff (9 for 18) makes her a longshot contender by default. CONCEALEDWITHAKISS is widest, but he's certainly in good form.
A's: 6, 10
B's: 13
C's: None
$8 double: 8 / 6, 10 ($16 Total)
$4 double 8 / 13 ($4)
$4 double 7, 9, 11 / 6, 10 ($24)
$2 double 7, 9, 11 / 13 ($6)
$50 total
