Peck: Charles Town pick four for Saturday, April 21

The late scratch of favored Moonlit Song changed the complexion of the sequence, but today's late Pick 4 at Charles Town remains an interesting sequence, of course culminating with the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic:

RACE 8: The scratch of heavy favorite Moonlit Song completely changed this opening leg. Originally, I took a shot with ANNA'S BANDIT as the top pick. A winner of 10 of 13 career starts over this strip, she seemed to have a good shot at upsetting Moonlit Song, who drew wide, but the appeal was in value, which is now nil as she will likely be favored. I'll also now include T REX EXPRESS, who could control the pace.

RACE 9: LITE THE STORM may be quickest out of the gate, and the inside draw helps in that regard. Strangely, there's not a lot of speed in this abbreviated sprint. JAXBRADENRISHI has the early zip to stay close, and that could prove to be an edge. WILLIAM AND MARY makes his first start since January, but he's been working very well toward this return.

RACE 10: LAKE PONCHATRAIN has eight Charles Town wins and she's proven at seven furlongs; should be rolling late. IN THE NAVY NOW is extremely consistent, and she's another who should make her presence felt in the lane. ASCERTAIN is easy to like off that last figure, and of course due to the connections.

C's: NONE

RACE 11: SOMETHING AWESOME has improving Beyers, posting four wins in his last five starts. This is the deepest group he's faced but he could prove a threat with another step forward. WAR STORY is two for his last two when not facing Gun Runner, and there are no such rivals in this Charles Town Classic; the one to beat. DIVERSIFY is the one to catch in his seasonal debut; could go all the way if able to back down the fractions on a loose lead. AFLEET WILLY may get first run on Diversify, and could inherit the lead if that runner is short off the layoff.
