Peck: Belmont pick four for Sunday, May 10
Trying the late pick four at Belmont, with a strong lean on a longshot in the finale.
RACE 6
MUNASARA is an easy horse to like and a logical "A." So is DELIGHTFUL JOY, and SO YOU SAY is also clearly dangerous. But I don't want to go three deep with "A" plays in a six-horse field, so I'll take a mini-stand with MUNASARA and relegate the other two to "B" status.
A's: 4
B's: 5, 6
C's: NONE
RACE 7
Going deep in this turf route, the race I had the most trouble with on the card. UPGRADE, OCALA JIM, and EXCLUSIVE STRIKE are the "A" plays, while SINATRA and ALL INCLUDED are the "B's," and SCHOOLOFHARDKNOCKS and SMOOTH DADDY are "C's."
A's: 4, 5, 9
B's: 1, 12
C's: 10, 11
RACE 8
Very difficult to plot the Diablo Stakes with so many entrants cross-entered elsewhere. But one thing that is certain is I'd like to try to beat PALACE MALICE, who is clearly using this sprint race as a prep off the long layoff. I'll use him as a "C" while focusing on those horses with more positional speed, since it seems that PIQUANT and TENANGO, two possible pacesetters, will run at Monmouth on Saturday. PALACE and CLASSIC SALSA (coupled with STALLWALKIN' DUDE) will be involved from the start, while CLEARLY NOW merits respect off his back figures.
A's: 1, 3
B's: 7
C's: 4, 5
RACE 9
GET OUT OF TOWN intrigues me off the works, his lone turf Beyer Speed Figure fits well enough, and he should be a big price. He's a horse I'm looking to score on today. FEVERISH LOOT has some of the better figures in the field. KING GATTO fits off his Florida form. I'll spread on the bottom with a couple of other logical runners.
A's: 5
B's: 4, 10
C's: 1, 6, 11
