Peck: Belmont Day late pick four play
Race 10: One of many races on this card that features a very deep field, the Manhattan may be the race in this sequence that warrants an “All.” Eight of the 10 entered have posted a Beyer Speed Figure of at least 96 in one of their last two starts, and the other two, Boisterous (No. 5) (six wins over this course) and Seek Again (No. 6) (first or second in seven of nine starts) also fit. (10)
Race 11: Clearly, California Chrome (No. 2) is going to be on the vast majority of tickets, and he's the most likely winner of the Belmont. He's the “A” play. But I'll also hope for some value by using General a Rod (No. 10), a horse with some speed in a race lacking the same and a colt with excuses in his losses in the first two legs of the Triple Crown. For the purposes of this “A” ticket, I'll use those two, but “B” tickets will include Commanding Curve (No. 4), Ride On Curlin (No. 5), Samraat (No. 7), and Tonalist (No. 2).

Race 12: Inchape (No. 3) has steady Beyers and tactical speed, and trainer Jason Servis wins at a strong rate with horses off these intermediate layoffs. North Star Boy (No. 4) was stuck behind some slow fractions in his latest and stands to benefit from a better setup today. Shining Copper (No. 11) could prove tough to reel in if he's able to get clear in his first start for trainer Todd Pletcher. Looking to beat Ghurair, who could be too late if the pace is controlled (3).
Race 13: Confrontation (No. 6) was no threat to the sharp winner in his latest, but he ran well enough in defeat, and the resulting Beyer gives him credibility. Pazolini (No. 8) has improved with each start, and his last figure puts him squarely in the middle of this (2).
The play: All / 2, 10 / 3, 4, 11 / 6, 8 = 120 combinations ($60 ticket)
