Pebble Beach finds good spot to gain second career win
Every golfer in North America with a single-digit handicap wants to play the spectacular golf course Pebble Beach. Horseplayers might want to take a shot at the horse Pebble Beach when she runs in the featured race at Emerald Downs on Friday night. The 3-year-old filly Pebble Beach, trained by Frank Lucarelli, looks like a serious contender in the $15,000 claiming race for fillies and mares that drew nine horses. It goes as race 6 on a seven-race card that begins at 6:30 p.m. Pacific.
The six-furlong dash is restricted to horses who have never won two races, and Pebble Beach is dropping to a new low after finishing fourth in a $25,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies on July 9. It was the first time she finished worse than third in five starts this year, and she had an excuse as she was bumped and squeezed back at the start.
Pebble Beach has good tactical speed, and if she gets away alertly, she should get a nice trip stalking what should be an honest and contested pace. She drew post 2, with Leslie Mawing, who has ridden her exclusively this year, retaining the mount.

◗ After winning a $25,000 maiden-claiming race in her first start this year, she really hasn’t run a bad race, and it is easy to forgive her for not being part of the trifecta for the first time this year in her troubled last start. She comes out of a live barn, and Lucarelli may have found the right spot for her to get her second win.

◗ Trained by Jose Navarro, she is versatile, and in her last start June 16, she came up a head short after dueling the whole way with the winner in a similar race. This 4-year-old filly runs well fresh and may have tipped her hand with a sharp four-furlong move July 17.

◗ The Blaine Wright trainee looked good winning a maiden special weight race in her debut and then was overmatched in a first-level allowance race won by Hastings invader Bonus Spin. With just two starts behind her, she has a right to improve, and she is going to appreciate the substantially easier company in this spot.
FORMULATOR FACT: Over the past five years, Wright has a 32 percent strike rate with horses running for a tag for the first time.
