Jockey Edgar Payeras said he received doctor’s clearance on Tuesday to resume morning work after being unseated in Sunday’s eighth race at Del Mar.
Payeras was aboard Can You Dream when the 3-year-old filly sustained a leg injury on the backstretch of a $16,000 claiming race for nonwinners of three. Can You Dream was euthanized. Payeras underwent examination on his shoulder at a local hospital, according to his agent, Frank Quesada. Payeras said he resumed morning activity on Wednesday.
Through Sunday, Payeras, 32, has 2 wins from 13 mounts at the current Del Mar meeting, which began on July 17. At the three-week Los Alamitos daytime Thoroughbred meeting earlier this summer, Payeras finished in a tie for first in the jockey standings with Armando Ayuso and Kazushi Kimura with nine wins.
Payeras has one mount at Del Mar on Thursday and Friday and six on Saturday, including A Thousand Miles in the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes for fillies and mares.
