Paulassilverlining stands out in Garland of Roses

Paulassilverlining, a three-time graded stakes winner in 2016, figures to be an odds-on choice in Saturday’s $125,000 Garland of Roses, the first stakes race of the inner-track season at Aqueduct.
Two starts back, Paulassilverlining won the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont and then finished third, beaten just two lengths, in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on Nov. 5 at Santa Anita.
She does not face a graded winner on Saturday. With a victory, Paulassilverlining would surpass the $1 million mark in career earnings. She is owned and bred by Vincent Scuderi and trained by Michelle Nevin.
In addition to her four career graded stakes wins, Paulassilverlining won the Ruthless Stakes over the inner track as 3-year-old. She will be ridden by Jose Ortiz.
The competition includes Kelsocait, who had won two straight before a bad stumble compromised her when she finished last in the Safely Kept Stakes at Laurel on Nov. 19.
Old Valyria, a filly who has been racing at Woodbine, was supplemented to this race by owner Lucio Tucci. She will race in the name of trainer Rudy Rodriguez. She raced in Canada for trainer Jamie Attard.
Callista, Disco Chick, Black Mission Fig, and Savannah Belle also entered.
Hot City Girl, trained by Linda Rice, was being considered for this race but instead was entered in the Willa On the Move at Laurel, also on Saturday.
