Paulassilverlining, winner of two Grade 1’s this year, will run in Sunday’s Grade 2, $300,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park, where she will be the 123-pound starting highweight for the 6 1/2-furlong race. Paulassilverlining will enter the Gallant Bloom off a fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Ballerina on Aug. 26 at Saratoga.
“She threw me for a loop because she’s so consistent,” Brown said. “She came back and breezed well [Sunday] morning. Based on what I’m seeing right now, she seems to be doing really well.”
Brown also is planning on running Carina Mia in the Gallant Bloom. Carina Mia finished third in the Ballerina, a length behind winner By the Moon.
Trainer Michelle Nevin said Monday that she and owner Samantha Siegel have not yet finalized whether By the Moon would run in the Gallant Bloom or train up to the Breeders’ Cup, the latter being considered a strong possibility.
Highway Star, runner-up to By the Moon in the Ballerina, worked a half-mile in 49.55 seconds over the Belmont main track Monday morning in preparation for the Gallant Bloom. Her trainer, Rodrigo Ubillo, called it a maintenance move.
