Paulassilverlining, By the Moon still have work to do

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Unlike many who participated in the Breeders’ Cup, trainer Michelle Nevin’s pair of older female sprinters, Paulassilverlining and By the Moon, are not headed for retirement, the breeding shed, or a vacation in the near future.
Paulassilverlining, third, beaten two lengths, in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, worked five furlongs in 1:03.63 on Friday over Belmont Park’s main track. Nevin said she might run in next Saturday’s $125,000 Garland of Roses Stakes over the inner track.
“She’s the same old girl,” Nevin said. “She’s kind of a lazy horse in the morning, which is probably a great thing, but she’s doing good.”
Paulassilverlining is a five-time stakes winner and has earned more than $930,000. According to Nevin, owner Vincent Scuderi plans to race Paulassilverlining in 2017.
By the Moon, owned by Samantha Siegel’s Jay Em Ess Stable, was nominated to Saturday’s Grade 3 Go for Wand Handicap but was not entered.
“I felt like when she shipped back home, she seemed a little flat,” Nevin said. “She didn’t bounce back as quick as I’d like, and I felt like I was rushing to make this race, so I just passed.”
By the Moon seems more likely to race out of town during the winter. Nevin said she doesn’t want to run By the Moon at six furlongs, and the only other options available here are around two turns.
Laurel offers one-turn middle-distance races such as the $100,000 Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes, a one-turn mile, on Dec. 31.
