Paul Boghossian, owner of Triple B Farms, dies at 73

Paul Boghossian, who owned Grade 1 winners Richard's Kid and Shamdinan, died on Thursday, his family announced on Friday.
Hratch Paul Boghossian was 73. He was born in Syria in 1941, and immigrated to the United States in 1964.
Racing as Triple B Farms, a name that reflected the involvement of his sons Paul Jr. and Christopher, Boghossian owned the stakes winners Richard’s Kid, Shamdinan, Shediak, Tribal Spy and Whilly.
Shamdinan won the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park in 2007 and was second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Monmouth Park that year. Whilly won the Grade 2 American Handicap at Hollywood Park and Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita in 2005.
More recently, Tribal Spy won the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes at Santa Anita in April 2014.
In August 2012, Boghossian, as part of a partnership, acquired Richard’s Kid in the week before the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar. Richard’s Kid had won the Pacific Classic the previous year for Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed al-Maktoum’s Zabeel International, and finished third in the 2012 running for Boghossian and partners.
Richard’s Kid raced another year for the partnership, later winning the Cougar II Handicap at Del Mar in August, 2013.
Boghossian was a frequent visitor to Southern California tracks, often spending mornings with trainers watching workouts. He had horses with Ben Cecil, Adam Kitchingman, Doug O’Neill, and John Sadler. Kitchingman is the current Triple B Farms trainer.
Alex Procel, racing manager for the Boghossian family, said on Saturday that the family will continue its involvement in racing.
In business, Boghossian founded Armorcast Products, which produced a wide variety of concrete, polymer and fiberglass products used for utilities. The company is based in North Hollywood, Calif.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Glendale Forest Lawn in Glendale, Calif.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to City of Hope cancer research.
