CYPRESS, Calif. - Pattys Saint, purchased privately last fall, won her first start for owners Matt and Bendi Dunn and trainer Monty Arrossa in Sunday’s $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap for older Quarter Horse fillies and mares at Los Alamitos. Ridden for the first time by Eduardo Nicasio, Pattys Saint ($8.20) led throughout the 400-yard to win by a half-length over a game Fearless Moon, the 7-2 third choice. Pattys Saint, the second choice in the betting, was timed in 19.41 seconds, benefiting from a 15-mile per hour tailwind. :: Bet with the Best! Cir Lady Moon, the 9-5 favorite trained by Arrossa, did not have a fast start and raced in traffic 200 yards into the race, losing all chance. Armando Cervantes, who rode Cir Lady Moon, lodged an objection against Diego Herrera who rode Nymphette. The stewards did not change the order of finish. Pattys Saint, a 6-year-old Idaho-bred mare by Jess Got Easier, raced for owner and breeder Robert Harrison until his death last June at 91. Harrison’s family raced Pattys Saint through the fall before she was sold to the Dunns, who live in Missouri and operate a prominent Quarter Horse farm in Oklahoma. Arrossa said that Pattys Saint will remain in training this year. She has won 18 of 26 starts, racing throughout the west, and has earned $317,652. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
