ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Passion for Action has emerged as the early leader in the male sprint division after wins in the Jacques Cartier and Grade 3 Vigil stakes to begin the Woodbine season. He’ll have a chance to add to his résumé when he returns to turf in the Grade 2, $200,000 Connaught Cup Stakes over seven furlongs June 5, according to trainer Mike De Paulo. Passion for Action has shown impressive turf form throughout his career. He won the 2014 Cup and Saucer Stakes as a 2-year old and ran fourth in a pair of graded stakes on grass last season, though he failed to record a win on turf last year. “I thought his best races were on the grass last year,” De Paulo said. “I guess we’ll have to see when he gets on it this year.” Passion for Action’s most recent turf race resulted in a sixth-place finish in the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 27. The Canadian Turf looks like a key race after Passion for Action’s win in the Jacques Cartier, Heart to Heart’s runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile, and Divisidero’s victory in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic.
