Pass the Gravy holds on in Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity

Pass the Gravy held on to win the $59,275 Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity by a neck over Sir Anthony on Saturday at Hawthorne Racecourse.
Settled third early by jockey Rodney Prescott in the 1 1/16-mile dirt race for Illinois-bred 2-year-olds, Pass the Gravy moved three wide between horses on the far turn, seized the lead at the top of the homestretch, and took a one-length lead to the stretch call. Sir Anthony, who had followed the winner, took aim at Pass the Gravy in deep stretch but fell just short of catching him, with Ghaaleb’s Winner 4 1/4 lengths back in third.
Off splits of 23.60, 47.40, and 1:13.00, Pass the Gravy was timed in 1:46.73 on a fast track. He paid $4 as the heavy favorite.
Pass the Gravy is by Afleet Alex out of Jasmine and Daisys, by Lite the Fuse. A winner now in three of his four starts, Pass the Gravy was bred by Richard Ravin and trainer Larry Rivelli, and is owned by those two and the V-Leaf Stables.
