Parx power loss gives horsemen until Tuesday for Saturday draw

Parx Racing had a power outage Monday morning that created phone and internet issues in the racing office. As a result, the Saturday card, which was to be drawn Monday, will now be drawn Tuesday morning.

Horsemen wishing to enter horses for the Saturday card at Parx will have until 9 a.m. Tuesday to do so, according to Sam Elliott, the track's director of racing.

"We can't draw the races or put out an overnight with the Internet down," Elliott said. "We pretty much know what races we are going to use, but will keep the entry box open until Tuesday morning and then draw the races."

Parx will reopen Saturday following a 3 1/2-week break. The Saturday card includes five $100,000 stakes for Pennsylvania-breds and the $150,000 Princess of Sylmar, an open one-mile stakes for 3-year-old fillies. Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia is expected to prep for the $1 million Cotillion on Sept. 24 in that race.
