Parose takes Durham

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Parose ($8.30) overhauled Barbeau Ruckus at the sixteenth pole and then edged away to take the Grade 3 Durham Cup Handicap at Woodbine Saturday.

Parose lagged about 15 lengths off the pace on the backstretch of the nine-furlong event. Favored Wake at Noon and Barbeau Ruckus hooked up on the front end through honest fractions, before Barbeau Ruckus took the lead on the far turn.

Parose began his wide rally under jockey Jono Jones with about three-eighths of a mile left, and got home on top by two lengths. Wake at Noon finished 2 1/4 lengths behind Barbeau Ruckus in third in the six-horse field. The final time was 1:53.16.

Parose, a 9-year-old gelding trained by Sandy McPherson, banked $98,280 of the $163,800 purse for owner John Atto.
