Paradise Woods ‘stiff and sore' after Torrey Pines

DEL MAR, Calif. – Paradise Woods, who finished sixth of seven as the heavy favorite in the Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar on Sunday after stumbling at the start, was “stiff and sore” Monday morning, trainer Richard Mandella said.
“She scrambled pretty badly leaving the gate,” Mandella said. “It was her own fault. She freaked out in the gate. She looks fine other than being a little stiff, and her back’s a little sore.”

The Torrey Pines was the first start since the Kentucky Oaks for Paradise Woods, who won the Santa Anita Oaks in April.
◗ Champagne Room, last year’s champion 2-year-old filly, continued her strong series of works for her return with a five-furlong move in 1:00 on Monday morning for trainer Pete Eurton.
◗ Test winner American Gal worked a half-mile in 49.60 seconds for trainer Simon Callaghan. She is expected to have one race, yet to be chosen, prior to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on Nov. 4 at Del Mar.
