Betfair Hollywood Park

Parading’s first winner scores at Hollywood Park

Joe Nevills|Jun 22, 2013

Raise the Hoof’s maiden victory on June 21 at Betfair Hollywood Park made him the first winner sired by Claiborne Farm stallion Parading.

The 2-year-old gelding bested a field of maiden claimers by 2 ½ lengths, completing the 4 ½ furlong race in :52.75 over Hollywood's synthetic Cushion Track surface. He crossed the finish as the even-money favorite in the seven-horse field.

Bred in Pennsylvania by John Penn, Raise the Hoof is out of the Danzig mare Time Buyer, who has produced nine winners from 10 foals to race, including Grade 3 winner Connections. The gelding was trained to victory by Jeff Bonde for a partnership that included Jeff Ganje, Philip Lebherz, R.C. Lewis and Everett Lebherz. However, he was claimed out of his winning effort for $50,000 by new owner Patsy Jarvis and trainer Marsha Schwizer.

Parading, a 10-year-old son of Pulpit, stands at Claiborne in Paris, Ky., for an advertised fee of $3,500. His initial crop consists of 59 foals.

Parading specialized in races on turf and synthetic surfaces during his racing career, winning the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes on the turf at Pimlico Race Course and the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes on Keeneland Race Course’s Polytrack. He also won the listed Volponi Stakes on the Belmont Park turf. In total, Parading won seven of 21 career starts for earnings of $530,046.

Homebred in Kentucky by Phipps Stable, Parading is out of the Grade 3-placed winning Storm Cat mare On Parade, who is the dam of four winners from as many starters, including Grade 2-placed winner Protesting.

Parading’ bloodlines go through the best of the Phipps breeding program, including his third dam, undefeated champion and Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign; and his second dam, multiple Grade 1 winner My Flag. Other notable family members include champion Storm Flag Flying, and Grade 1 winners Miner’s Mark and Traditionally.
