Papaprodromou looking forward to the future with American Theorem
A son of American Pharoah winning the American Pharoah? That will be the hope of trainer George Papaprodromou on Sept. 27 when American Threorem, his American Pharoah colt, goes in the Grade 1 American Pharoah at Santa Anita.
American Theorem won his debut sprinting on Saturday at Del Mar with a Beyer Speed Figure of 83. He galloped out powerfully afterward. The American Pharoah is a prep for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile five weeks later. Both are at 1 1/16 miles, and both are at Santa Anita.
Papaprodromou was accepting congratulations from numerous trainers while watching his horses train from the box seat section on Sunday morning. He admitted to being “nervous, excited, you name it” prior to the race owing to the way American Theorem had been training.
“He had been working great. Everybody was talking about him,” Papaprodromou said. “We knew he wasn’t super sharp coming out of the gate. He got in a little bit of traffic, but he got right through there. It worked out perfect.”
Papaprodromou said he would speak with owner Rustin Kretz about plans for American Theorem, “but most likely he’ll run in the American Pharoah,” Papaprodromou said.
Kretz bought American Theorem privately as a yearling after he failed to meet his reserve at Keeneland. He was listed as RNA for $190,000.
