Panici looking to return to riding next week

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Jockey Luca Panici, who has been idle since suffering a fractured collarbone in a riding mishap here last month, is hoping to be able to return to the saddle next week, his agent, Kevin Meyocks, said Wednesday.
“Luca’s therapy has gone well,” Meyocks said. “He meets with his doctor on Thursday and is hopeful he’ll be cleared to start riding immediately. If so, he’ll begin getting on horses right away and point for a return next Wednesday.”
Panici was the regular jockey for top 3-year-olds Ete Indien and Sole Volante prior to his injury. Meyocks said he has put off any discussion with Patrick Biancone, who trains both horses, about the status of those mounts until he receives official word that Panici could start riding again. Ete Indien is expected to be among the favorites in the Florida Derby on March 28 at Gulfstream.
